Hi! This blog is a great place to see highlights from weddings, which I think is more helpful than viewing a portfolio comprised of random favorites from a million different weddings. Please keep in mind that I deliver around 1,000 edited photos per wedding, so these posts are just 50-ish photos I liked from these weddings. Let me know if you'd like to see an entire wedding gallery—I'm happy to send you a link!
If you’ve recently gotten engaged (congratulations!), you’re probably considering getting engagement photos to celebrate this momentous stage of life—and to get to know your photographer better and get acquainted with being in front of the camera. Here’s a list of my favorite engagement session tips!
As an engagement and wedding photographer in Cleveland, I love sharing the knowledge I’ve picked up through my years of doing photography. My first engagement session tip is to put some thought into the location of your engagement photos. I have a list of favorite places to capture your photos, but I also like to get my couple’s input. I suggest we go to a spot with special meaning to you as a couple, like your first date location. Alternatively, I could capture you doing something you enjoy doing together, like walking your dog or eating ice cream. Whatever you decide, it’s always best to choose a place that speaks to your relationship and allows you to be yourselves!
Another thing to consider is the time of year to take your engagement pictures. My next engagement session tip is to have your photo session at least six months before your wedding date. By scheduling it about six months before the wedding, you can use the photos for your save the date cards. As an added bonus, if you take your engagement photos in a different season from when you have your wedding, you’ll get a nice contrasting look from your wedding photos.
Once you’ve decided on the location and time of year for your engagement session, the next big consideration is what to wear! I encourage my couples to be themselves and wear what best represents them. While most photographers say to wear neutrals, and I agree that neutrals are timeless and coordinate with any given scenario, it’s important to me that you’re comfortable and wear what you love! You can always count on me to provide you with advice or approve outfits if needed. I LIVE for that stuff.
Another engagement session tip I’d like to pass along is to consider scheduling your makeup trial around your engagement session so you can get an idea of how your makeup will photograph on your wedding day!
Your engagement is a fun and exciting time, but it can tend to be overshadowed by all the planning and focus of your wedding, so my last tip is to enjoy the day! I recommend not holding your engagement session on a busy day—so that you have the time to prepare and relax, and then after your pictures, treat yourselves to a date night. Make this day all about you and your favorite person!
It’s SUCH an exciting time as you prepare to marry the love of your life. I enjoy capturing my couple’s engagement photos because this is a time we can connect and get to know each other, and laugh our booties off. I aim to make this a fun time together and create beautiful images you’ll treasure for the rest of your life.
